Pakistan PM Chairs National Security Meeting, Takes Stock of Operation Marg Bar Sarmachar
Pakistan launched Operation Marg Bar Sarmachar to retaliate against missile strikes launched by Iran. The caretaker government held a meeting to take stock of the security situation later.

The Pakistan National Security Committee and the nation’s caretaker prime minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar met on Friday to discuss matters of national security after it conducted counter airstrikes in Iran earlier this week.

Iran had conducted airstrikes on two districts in Pakistan and claimed to destroy the headquarters of the Baloch militant group Jaish-al-Adl.

They reviewed the situation and congratulated the army for the response against the Iranian missile strikes. The Pakistan caretaker prime minister took stock of the ‘Operation Marg Bar Sarmachar’. “The forum reiterated the unflinching resolve that sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan are absolutely inviolable and sacrosanct and any attempt by anyone to breach it on any pretext will be responded with full might of the state. The meeting reaffirmed that the security and safety of the people of Pakistan is of paramount importance and no stone will be left unturned to ensure it,” an official familiar with the developments told CNN-News18.

Pakistan claims Operation Marg Bar Sarmachar targeted what it calls ‘Baloch terrorists residing on the ungoverned spaces inside Iran’.

Iran, however, claims that Jaish-al-Adl has been operating from Pakistani soil and since the past decade, the group, has caused security concerns for Iran.

During the meeting, the participants stressed that Iran “being a neighbourly and brotherly Muslim country” should have utilised the “multiple communication channels” between Tehran and Islamabad to express its security concerns and not taken such steps in the interest of maintaining regional peace and stability.

Pakistani officials in the meeting claimed that the nation has suffered far more than any other country due to terrorism. “The Committee also reiterated the resolve to deal with the menace of terrorism, in all its forms and manifestations, with an iron hand. Forum also highlighted that Pakistan has suffered far more than any other country due to this scourge of terrorism,” an official said.

They also hoped that Iran and Pakistan will be mutually able to overcome these issues through dialogue and diplomacy and deepen their relationship. The caretaker defence, foreign, finance ministers and the chiefs of army, naval and air staff as well as heads of Pakistani intelligence agencies attended the meeting.
