New Delhi: Petroleum Secretary M S Srinivasan on Tuesday confirmed that a marginal fuel hike of Rs 2-4 is on the cards and the Group of Ministers would announce the decision after their January 17 meeting.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, meanwhile, had expressed concern over the rising international crude prices and hinted that the Government is looking at various options to tackle the issue.
He said that a fuel price hike and duty cuts would be considered to deal with the situation.
"We have to look at all possibilities existing. I would not like to comment on it. Steep rise in crude oil prices is a cause of concern. We have to look at various options open to us," PTI reported him as saying.
A Group of Ministers on fuel prices lead by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will meet on January 17, the first ever meeting after its constitution by the PM in November 2007, to deal with crude prices touching $100 a barrel.
