New Delhi: A new railway enquiry number 138, which will provide a host of value added passenger related services across the country, would be launched soon.
The 138 service, expected to be find a mention in the Rail Budget on February 26, will effectively off-load pressure from the existing 139 passenger enquiry number which clocks close to eight lakhs calls per day.
"The new service has received the nod of the Department of Telecommunication and we hope to launch the service soon," railway sources said.
"The paid 138 enquiry number will complement the currently in use free 139 number which is already facing a problem of clogged network due to heavy traffic," they said.
Last month's repeated disruption in train services due to fog had exposed some of the shortcomings of 139 service, prompting Railways to upgrade its software to provide quick and correct information.
