But how are India’s 15 World Cup-bound players faring in the tournament? While Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah have been the standouts – both leading Orange Cap and Purple Cap tallies, respectively, a few have endured a slump in form, especially after India’s World Cup squad was announced on April 30.

Complete List of T20 World Cup 2024 Squads

In yesterday’s match – MI vs SRH – four World Cup-bound players were featured: Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah.

Rohit Sharma (Captain)

Since his century (105*) against Chennai Super Kings that came on April 14, Rohit has played six innings and his highest score in those has been 36, while four of those scores are single-digit, including a score of 4 he scored against SRH, last night. At one point, Rohit was in Orange Cap contention and in the top 10, but he has fallen off the radar and is currently languishing at 17th with 330 runs in 12 matches. For an Indian skipper, more so an opener, these are worrying signs for the team leading up to the T20 World Cup. With Mi mathematically out of the playoff contention, the 37-year-old now has two more innings to regain his form before he takes the flight to the Americas.

Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav missed the initial MI matches while recovering from his knee surgery. His start to IPL 2024 was different, notching up two fifties plus scores, but he also endured two ducks. He then had scores of 10, 26, and 10, and for someone batting at the crucial No.3 position, by his lofty standards, those returns looked average. However, the 33-year-old seemed to get his mojo back. After a solid 56 against Kolkata Knight Riders on May 3, Suryakumar Yadav hit a whirlwind 102* in the MI victory march against SRH last night. Those are good signs for Team India. Courtesy of that century, he has overtaken Rohit in the Orange Cap list and is 16th with 334 runs in nine matches, striking at 176.71.

Hardik Pandya

The MI skipper and India’s vice-captain for the T20 World Cup, Hardik, came up with his best performance with the ball in IPL 2024 thus far, claiming 3/31 in MI’s victory over SRH last night. While he has been consistently bowling in the previous matches, he did not have the desired impact in earlier matches. Still, against SRH, his three wickets in the middle overs dented SRH’s charge, and he was also relatively economical, giving away runs at 7.75 RPO. He now has 11 wickets in 12 matches at an economy of 10.58.

Jasprit Bumrah

The MI bowling lynchpin has been the standout bowler in IPL 2024. He continued his strong performance against SRH, returning economical figures of 4-0-23-1. Bowling alongside Hardik in the middle overs, his spell was pivotal in curtailing the SRH batters’ momentum. He leads the Purple Cap tally with 18 scalps in 12 matches and an economy of 6.20 RPO.
