From television to OTT and films; actress Deepshikha Nagpal has worked across mediums. However, after spending 30 years in the industry, she feels that she has been typecast for negative roles. Nagpal, who is now back on television with the show Megha Barsenge, spoke exclusively to News18 Showsha recently when she admitted that she was left shocked after the makers of her previous show decided to cast her in a positive role.
“People have typecast me in glamorous, strong, negative roles. When I am offered a negative role, I ask the reason that the character is like that. Everyone is not just negative. Certain emotions make them negative. I play on that,” she told us.
“Last show I did, I was playing a positive role. When the channel approached me for it, I was very happy. I asked them, ‘Are you sure you want me?’ I have been typecast. I stopped believing that I could also play a positive role. I thought nobody was going to cast me for positive roles. In real life, I am very positive and optimistic,” the actress added.
However, Deepshikha also clarified that she is happy with where she is today in the industry. “We always complain. It is with everyone. The way I see life, I feel, at least I am here. I am very happy. I always see half glass full than half glass empty. I am still here. A lot of people can’t reach here also. I feel I am very lucky. I still get options to choose my roles. This means that people are still considering me for roles. I am happy with where I am,” she said.
Talking about her show Megha Barsenge, Deepshikha mentioned that she decided to come on board because she found the role of ‘Goldy Bhua’ very entertaining. “2-3 shows were offered. They were typical mother’s characters. When this show came to me, I was so happy and excited that I really wanted to do it,” she said.
