Portugal: Portugal legend Luis Figo has joined the debate on the criticism directed at coach Carlos Queiroz by Cristiano Ronaldo following their World Cup elimination by Spain.
Figo believes the Real Madrid star did not behave like a captain should do in times of adversity.
An incensed Ronaldo told reporters to "ask Carlos Queiroz" why his team were knocked out of the tournament in the immediate aftermath of the round of 16 tie in Cape Town, but despite efforts to play down those comments, his statement has drawn criticism from his former mentor.
Figo, who captained the Seleccao to a semi-final place at the last World Cup in Germany in a record-breaking 127 cap international career said when times are tough, a captain should defend the group.
"My notion of what a captain is maybe different from other people, but a captain, regardless of the success or failure always has to defend the group. In hard times he should face the consequences for the group," Figo declared to Marca.
