Redknapp acknowledges comforts of Chelsea job
"It's a great job. You would have to be a fool not to do a good job at Chelsea" Redknapp said.

London: Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp insists that Andre Villas-Boas would be a fool if he was unable to do well at Chelsea, given the players he has at his disposal.

The Blues signed Fernando Torres in January and also have a squad that boasts the likes of Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard and John Terry.

There has been some doubt concerning the Portuguese tactician's mettle, as he is only 33 years old and has not previously managed any club in La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1 or the Premier League.

He did, however, win the treble with Porto last season - and was on Chelsea's staff during Jose Mourinho's time at Stamford Bridge when the charismatic manager made him head of the Opponent Observation Department, compiling detailed dossiers on Chelsea's rivals.

Now one of those rivals for Villas-Boas next season will be Tottenham, and Spurs boss Redknapp feels that the squad the Blues have means the newcomer should be able to to a good job at the west London outfit.

"It's a great job. You would have to be a fool not to do a good job at Chelsea, with those players," Redknapp said, according to The News of the World.

"You walk into the dressing room and look around and see great players, leaders like John Terry, Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba.

"It would be hard to fail - they will be bang there when the trophies are handed out."

The former West Ham United and Portsmouth boss also believes that Tottenham need to improve their squad to have any hope of finishing in the top four, having missed out on the Champions League last season.

"We have to improve the squad if we are going to do that," Redknapp added. "You have to be realistic. We finished fifth last season and the teams above and below us are all improving."

The 64-year-old has also been widely tipped to succeed Fabio Capello as the manager of the England national team, but feels that the position may be one that is jinxed.

"It's a bit of a poisoned chalice," said Redknapp. "Whoever gets it ends up getting slaughtered. And you look at the Under-21s the other week, we were a disaster.

"It's not as if we have an incredible group of players coming through. Whoever takes over will have a tough job."
