SHIMOGA: About 20 employees of a multinational company (MNC) situated on the outskirts of the city have lost their fingers while working in the unit. This incident came to light when these employees were deprived of necessary help from the company.The company manufacturing dinnerware out of areca fronds was running its unit on Popular rice mill premises situated on Honnali road. The company hired about 150 employees producing 20-22,000 areca fronds every day.“As the demand is high, we need to work round the clock. So, work pressure mounts on every employee. While manufacturing areca fronds, many employees lost their fingers. But the sad part was the company’s irresponsible attitude towards these employees,” said an employee on a condition of anonymity.Employees were of the opinion that the company is exploiting human resource.The concerned authorities only provide minimum medical treatment whenever an employee gets hurt during the operation, opined employees. Following media reports, the company declared a holiday on Friday. The employees are now anxious about their jobs.
