CHENNAI: When the city was busy making preparations to catch some sleep after celebrating Christmas this year, an all-night musical tribute to the 2004 Tsunami victims began at Spaces in Besant Nagar. Organised by the Prakriti Foundation, the event began with the performance of ace pianist Anil Srinivasan. It was already 10 pm when the other performance of the night by the band La Pongal began. When the band members were getting ready, a crowd of about 70 people entertained themselves by cracking jokes. And for those whose eyelids were beginning to droop, there was always a hot cup of tea readily available at the event. The performance by La pongal left everyone present in the auditorium spellbound. The one-hour performance kept everyone glued to their seats. It was a pleasant experience to watch four youngsters perform to Tamil folk songs using western instruments. Be it Elay Elay, Hey pulla kiliyamma, Naandhan veeran nallamuthu peran or Aathangara orathula — the band performed the songs enthusiastically and entertained the audience. Though other bands such as Vintage couldn't deliver the same energetic performance, audiences were supportive enough to applaud them. The next performance was by the band Clarity in Confusion, which was one of the finalists in IIT Sarang last year. Over all, it was a fitting-tribute to the departed souls.
