The district administration on Monday evening unlocked the office of Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) in the presence of ADM Babaji Charan Das amid tight security. This followed an order from Magistrate Gitanjali Behera to open the lock of the CDMO office.
Reports said a group of lawyers led by Dhenkanal Bar Association president Nabakishore Guru had heated exchanges with CDMO B C Behera on Saturday over alleged poor health services and irregularities in the blood bank.
The CDMO allegedly parried the questions and instead blamed the district administration for the problems. Not convinced, the lawyers reportedly locked the office disrupting office work. With tension running high, the administration deployed armed police in front of the CDMO office and district headquarters hospital.
Meanwhile, the CDMO issued a press statement on Monday stressing that the district blood bank was awarded for collection of 5,550 units of blood last year and the allegations regarding its improper use are false.
Behera, however, admitted to large-scale vacancies in the district headquarters hospital and said there have been no appointments despite repeated reminders to the State Government.
Earlier, the Collector and District Blood Bank Chairman Bishnu Prasad Panda held discussions with the lawyers to break the deadlock. Panda assured the
agitating lawyers of an inquiry into allegations of irregularities in the blood bank.In the last three days when the CDMO office remained locked, important works including meetings could not be held and decisions deferred, said health officials.
