New Delhi: Expelled BJP leader Uma Bharati has said it was LK Advani, and not she, who let the BJP down and claimed that it's people like her who have the rightful claim to BJP's legacy.
The fiery sanyasin was in Ayodhya on Saturday at the end of her Ram-Roti yatra.
In an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN's chief political correspondent Bhupendar Chaubey, the former MP chief minister made it clear that she may be out but was not down.
Chaubey: So, what are your future plans?
Bharati: I will soon be back in Delhi. I am going to start a debate all over the country on who are the real BJP. In technical terms, they may be in BJP and they may be in Ashoka Road. But actually, they are not the ones who can claim the legacy of BJP. It's people like me who will claim the legacy of BJP
Chaubey: Your are a former general secretary of BJP, a former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh from BJP, now expelled from the same very party. Where are you right now in your life?
Bharati: Ideologically, emotionally and psychologically, right now the person who is expelled from the minds of BJP workers is Mr LK Advani, not Uma Bharati.
Chaubey: But LK Advani continues to be a part of BJP.
Bharati: Well, he continues to be a part of the BJP, because there is a certain caucus around him. Otherwise, he is totally erased from the minds of BJP workers.
Chaubey: But it's strange to hear this from you. Because LK Advani is someone who you yourself used to call your mentor, your father figure. Today, you are saying that it is LK Advani who has let the BJP down.
Bharati: Even now, I respect Advaniji and I love Advaniji. But the kind of change that took place in him when Advaniji went to Lahore was astonishing. Appreciating Jinnah is not a big issue. But saluting Jinnah for diving India is such a big issue... Organisations who claim to be based on ideology, their silence is astonishing for me.
