KOCHI: The Advocate Commissioner appointed by the High Court to inspect the Vilappilsala waste treatment plant submitted before the court that the construction of the plant has not been completed and there was no facility to segregate plastic waste there. The Commissioner, along with K R Santosh Kumar, the Environmental Engineer from the Kerala State Pollution Control Board, had examined the operation of the plant.They assessed the leachate treatment plant and other construction activities there. They held discussions with the panchayat and Thiruvananthapuram Corporation officials, the agitating locals, and the plant employees. The Commissioner and the Pollution Control Board will submit a report on its findings before Monday.The court had earlier directed to file the report. However, the court granted more time and adjourned the hearing of the case to Monday.A Division Bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice P R Ramachandra Menon, passed the order while considering a petition filed by Thiruvananthapuram Corporation secretary T Bhaskaran seeking police protection to dump waste at the Vilappilsala plant.Corporation’s counsel, Advocate Nandakumara Menon, pointed out that the District Medical Officer had reported that the solid waste accumulated in the city since December 21 has reached an alarming stage.
