NEW DELHI: After leading AIADMK to power last month in the Assembly elections, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa is set to visit Delhi on Monday and meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday, when she is expected to take up with him several development issues facing the state.This is her first trip to the national capital after assuming charge as the Chief Minister for the third time ousting arch-rival DMK.A grand reception awaits the Chief Minister in Delhi as hectic preparations are afoot, which are being supervised personally by senior AIADMK leaders. Former Union Law Minister and AIADMK Parliamentary leader M Thambidurai held a series of meetings on Sunday afternoon to finalis e preparations, while a set of senior officials were busy with getting the final touches given to the New Tamil Nadu House at Chanakyapuri.Unlike her earlier visits when she stayed at the Maurya Sheraton, regardless of whether she was in power or not, this time she has decided to stay at the New Tamil Nadu House, which she inaugurated in 2004.Sources in the Tamil Nadu government told Express that the Chief Minister is expected to fly down by a chartered plane and arrive in Delhi at 4 pm on Monday.Nine Lok Sabha and four Rajya Sabha MPs, besides hundreds of AIADMK supporters, will assemble at the airport to greet their leader.They have also arranged to greet their ‘Puratchi Thalaivi’ at the airport with a ‘Poorna Ku mbham’, symbolising Goddess Lakshmi and invoking good fortune.The CM will be accompanied by Finance Minister O Panneerselvam, Agriculture Minister K A Sengottaiyan, Chief Secretary Debendranath Sarangi and other senior officials.Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, who had congratulated Jayalalithaa after her poll win, may not meet her. Party sources say she is out of town on summer vacation and will return on June 20.
