PUDUCHERRY: The AIADMK on Friday petitioned Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh, seeking a judicial inquiry by a sitting or retired judge into the violence that broke out in Yanam.Five MLAs and other party functionaries led by Puducherry unit secretary A Anbazhagan submitted a memorandum in this regard to the LG. Expressing suspicion that external forces were responsible for the death of Regency Ceramics president (operations) Chandrasekhar, they claimed that he was killed under the garb of mob violence. The administration of Yanam was dominated by MLA Malladi Krishna Rao, the AIADMK claimed. Further, the violence could have been avoided if the police had acted in time to save the life of Murali Mohan, the trade union leader who allegedly died in police custody. False cases were registered against the political opponents of Krishna Rao, including AIADMK local unit president Saikumar, the memorandum alleged.Regency Ceramics, which has been running at a loss, deliberately triggered the violence to shut down its operations, the AIADMK alleged. The memorandum claimed that the henchmen of the company were the ones who indulged in violence so that they could claim the insurance amount. The AIADMK urged the posting of an IAS officer as the regional administrator of Yanam region. They also demanded that a minister visit the region once every month to hear the grievances of the people in the presence of the regional administrator. The party wanted financial aid of Rs 25 lakh to be given to the family of Murali Mohan, in addition to Rs 5 lakh compensation.
