KOCHI: The nurses’ strike at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) was resolved in the wee hours of Friday. Though the hospital functioned normally on Friday, the nursing students of the institute staged a protest against the injustice meted out to them. “The nursing students were made to work for long hours when the nurses were on strike and some of us objected to the payment given for the work,” said a student representative. The students also alleged misbehaviour by a management staff.The AIMS management had agreed to comply with the demands put forward by the nurses - reinstating of the United Nurses’ Association (UNA) office-bearers who were terminated, revision of wages, relaxing the working hours and ensuring that action will not be taken against those who had protested, said an official with the public relations (PR) department of the hospital.“A decision on this will be made within three months. The nurses should submit an apology,” he said.The members of the United Nurses’ Association said that they were satisfied with the management’s decision. “The management has said that a committee will be formed to sort out the issues. They have promised to hold discussions and solve the issues within three months,” said a state committee member of UNA.
