It's hard for actress Dhansikaa to conceal her excitement, every time someone brings up the topic of her next project, 'Aravaan'. It's not just Dhansikaa who is excited about the project. In fact, quite a few of those who have worked on the project along with Vasantabalan vouch for the fact that the movie will make its mark, both at the box office and in the hearts of the audience, once it hits screens.
A periodical flick, 'Aravaan' is based on an incident that has been written about in the Tamil novel 'Kaval Kottam' by Su Venkatesan.
Begins Dhansikaa excitedly, "It is actually based on a real-life incident. The film revolves around two villages that were in conflict with each other almost 300 years back. I play the female lead opposite Aadhi in the film. My character, Vanapechi, is a girl who is very calm but at the same time wild. She is a person who possesses the potential to complete any task that she sets her mind on."
It's not without reason that Vasantabalan has been able to deliver back-to-back hits. After 'Veyil' and 'Angaadi Theru', his passion for work has become pretty well known.
In fact, colleagues of the director say that he often forgets to even have his meals while working and is known to be a demanding taskmaster.
Ask Dhansikaa if she had a tough time working under such a dedicated director and she promptly replies, "Not at all. Working with him has been a very pleasant experience. The good thing about Vasantabalan sir is that he knows what his artistes can deliver. He gives one time to adjust and adapt. After explaining a scene, he would give us time and the freedom to think about it. I was very impressed with the manner in which he made this film."
Making a periodic flick is no easy task. A huge amount of effort goes into detailing, right from recreating the ambiance to getting the dialect right. For Dhansikaa, there were several challenges. Not only had she had to speak the dialect that was in use then, she also had to wear dresses worn in that era.
Commenting on the difficulties associated with the role, she says, "I was very unsure about my costumes initially. But once I got into the character, I knew this role was the one that I had been waiting for. I was told not to opt for make-up throughout the film."
That apart, the actress also had to learn Bharathanatyam to enact a few sequences in the film.
She says, "As this one's a period film, the usual dance steps wouldn't work for it. So, we had to use dance steps that belonged to that era and for that, I actually learnt Bharathanatyam."
It takes teamwork for a film to succeed. Talking about the work of each one of her co-artistes before signing off, Dhansikaa says, "I think I first need to thank Amma Creation’s Siva sir. To make a project of this magnitude, one needs to have immense faith in the director and the artistes. I think producer Siva sir has had faith in us and made this project. I think we haven't let him down. My co-star Aadhi is an actor who has already proved his worth. Pasupathi sir and he have done a fabulous job in this film. Take my word, this is one film you don't want to miss!"
