HYDERABAD: IAS officers in the state, who are up in arms against the CBI for its “unwarranted” aggression against them in the name of investigation of scams, are now contacting their counterparts in Delhi to fix an appointment with home minister P Chidambaram for steps to reign in the central investigation agency.Sources say that the IAS babus are waiting for the chief minister to return from Delhi as they want to meet him once again before proceeding to ask for grievance redressal. What is getting the babus peeved is the fact that CBI officials summon them to the Dilkusha guest house on mere suspicion or for information. This, they say, gives the general public the impression that the officers are involved in some major scam.Instead of this, the officers want the CBI officials to come to meet them at their offices if they need information. The officials also feel that the investigative agency does not reveal when they are summoning the officials as witnesses.Even when babus testify as witnesses in a case, the manner in which they are summoned makes everyone look at them as if they are guilty of something. The officers want the CBI men to clarify through an official statement in such cases and feel it would go a long way.The officers made it clear that they are not seeking insulation of the corrupt from law.The CBI is free to investigate the records of any officer who is corrupt but they felt was unceremonious summons to them were becoming all too common. After the CBI arrested some senior IAS officers and questioned more in various scams, they had made a representation to chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy who promised to take some steps. But the chief minister is likely to take up the issue of the IAS officers only after a cabinet expansion, for which he holding discussions with the Congress high command in New Delhi. One senior IAS officer said: “We will wait for a couple of days for the chief minister to set the house in order.Depending on what he would do, we would take the issue to the next level. We will not leave this midway. We will take it to its logical end.”
