The Chandigarh administration will review and revise its new draft policy on regulating nightlife. The new policy which included a ban on short skirts in discos and curtailing disco timings by two hours drew severe criticism from all quarters.
The administration had planned to place the restrictions with an aim to "control places of public amusement" as they believe discos are a breeding ground for 'anti-national' elements.
The draft policy states that "scantily dressed women" or any "indecency" could bring the shutters down at discos. The new policy "controlling of Places of Public Amusement, 2016" also curtailed the bar timings by two hours from 2 am to 12 midnight.
As per the policy, the permission to discos can be revoked if it is considered (a) To be indecent or of a scurrilous character; (b) To be seditious or likely to excite political discontent (c) Any exhibition or advertisement of scantily dressed women; (d) To contain offensive reference to personalities; (e) To promote hostile feelings between different classes; (f) To be calculated to cause a breach of peace.
Critics had termed the move vague and unclear. City based restaurateurs, lawyers and others have opposed the policy drafted by a nodal committee with the deputy commissioner as the chairman.
