Mumbai: Nine members of a family, including a pregnant woman and four kids, allegedly brutally assaulted by ten SSC students, after the former objected to their 'dirty dancing' to the Agneepath song at a Dahisar theatre.

That nine members of the Vaipy family had to be hospitalised after watching Agneepath is only half the story. The victims were allegedly beaten up with hockey sticks and iron rods by 10 teenagers and some local goons outside a theatre in Dahisar yesterday.

Satyanarayan Vishwakarma, a local goon who was allegedly involved in assaulting the Vaipy family, in police custody. Katrina Kaif performs to the chartbuster in Agneepath.

The provocation: Louis and Amol Vaipy, who have suffered serious head injuries, had earlier objected to the vulgar moves of the boys to the song Chikni Chameli inside the hall. Louis and Amol are battling for life at Kokilaben hospital in Andheri.

According to Dahisar police, 10 boys (names withheld as they are all juvenile) from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel School in Dahisar (East) had gone to watch the 3 pm show at Movie Gem Cinema after their secondary school certificate (SSC) exam farewell party.

Blow by blow

"Our family, including my brothers, sisters-in-law and a few nephews, had gone to watch the film. Suddenly, the boys who were sitting behind them started dancing vulgarly. They were so engrossed in the act that they started stomping on the feet of those around. When their actions became intolerable, my brother Louis requested them to stop. But the boys did not pay heed," said Amit Vaipy, a relative of the victims. Finally, after the theatre manager's intervention, the boys left the hall as he requested them to sit quietly and watch the film.

"After the movie, when Louis and Amol along with the other family members were walking towards the parking lot to get their cars, the boys appeared out of nowhere. But this time they had some local goons with them and were armed with hockey sticks and iron rods. Without any prior warning they started assaulting my relatives. They also damaged our cars and warned onlookers of dire consequences if they stepped in to help the family. Both my bothers, Amol and Louis, their wives including Amol's wife Anne who is expecting a nephew and four kids have sustained injuries," said Amit.

The police said that they have arrested nine people, including eight of the boys and Ramesh alias Satyanarayan Vishwakarma (24), a local goon, for rioting and assault.

"While we have sent the boys to a juvenile home in Dongri, Vishwakarma was presented in court and has been remanded to police custody till February 7," said Ansar Pirjade, senior PI, Dahisar police station.

When contacted, Punkaj Singh, manager of Movie Gem, said, "All those involved in this case had come to the theatre with valid tickets. The boys were requested to behave and quietly watch the movie, but they chose to leave. The fight took place outside the theatre."####
