CHENNAI: The seven-day Chennai Open attracted thousands of tennis fans across the city. Though many fans queued up to watch the action at the court, there were quite a few spectators at one of the stalls near the entrance of the SDAT Tennis stadium, Nungambakkam. Nintendo V or a video game on tennis at one of the stalls is what attracted kids the most. Even tennis stars such as Mahesh Bhupathi and Yuki Bhambri tried their hands at the game and looked satisfied with the results. “On an average, 200 kids would queue up each day during the tournament to have a shot at this game,” said the organisers. What about adults? “Quite a few parents and grown-ups tried their hand at the game as well,” the person added. The game is simple. Volunteers tie a console each to the right hands of two participants. “You are Nadal and the boy is Federer,” the volunteer said to one contestant. The participant who was representing Nadal missed the first point. “You need to smack the ball with your hand,” the volunteer said. He got it right next and won the game easily, thanks to couple of double faults from his young opponent. “That's it, one game for each team,” the volunteer said. “It's (the game) not the same compared to playing tennis at the court,” said Asumugam, a Class 6 student of PSBB School, Nungambakkam. “But it's fun, nevertheless. I play the video game for around two hours every week at my friend's house. The fun part is that you don't need to run so much, and can enjoy the game in the comfort of your home,” the boy added.
