Mumbai: A special court would hear on March 14 the bail plea of suspended sub-inspector Daya Nayak, held in a disproportionate assets case as Maharashtra CID was all set to question him in the custodial death of a blast accused.
Nayak has pleaded that Anti-Corruption Bureau had already recorded his statement and seized certain documents from his premises.
The statements of co-accused have also been recorded and nothing more remained to be investigated.
Nayak contended that he had "roots in the society" and would not abscond if released on bail.
The prosecution led by RV Kini has not yet taken a stand on his bail plea and would put forth its argument on March 14 when the matter comes up for hearing.
The court has also allowed Maharashtra CID to question Nayak regarding custodial death of a Ghatkopar bomb blast case accused Khwaja Yunus, on any working day as Nayak revealed during probe that he had knowledge about Younus' disappearance from police custody.
Younus mysteriously disappeared from police custody on January 10, 2003 when a police jeep carrying him to Aurangabad met with an accident near Ahmednagar.
However, co-accused Abdul Mateen alleged that he was tortured in custody as a result of which he died.
The court also adjourned to March 14 a plea made by Nayak to shift him from central prison to any other jail as he, who killed 83 gangsters in encounters, feared threat to his life in central prison.
Nayak was arrested last month under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act after the special court as well as Bombay High Court rejected his plea for anticipatory bail.
Later, Supreme Court also refused to grant him relief and asked him to surrender before special court which he did.
