Kolkata: Indefinite strike by junior doctors of SSKM Hospital spread to another state-run hospital in protest against the assault on one of their colleagues even as a conciliatory attempt by authorities failed to end the impasse.
Unconfirmed reports said that two patients died after being denied admission in the SSKM hospital. However, hospital authorities were not available for comment.
Five doctors have been arrested for assaulting relatives of patients after denying them admission and will be produced in the court on Monday.
The strike meanwhile spread to National Medical College and Hospital where doctors stopped work in solidarity with the doctors in the SSKM hospital.
The strike caused considerable trouble to the patients as hundreds of them were returned. Those included patients seeking admission in the emergency ward.
