The series of plays under the title Andha Naal Gnabhagham by Krishna Gana Sabha, are not just entertaining, but a top favourite for those who love Tamil theatre. One such production was Railpriya’s Pattabikku Nikkah. The play was one of the initial productions of the troupe that started in 1993. With a duration of about an hour and 45 minutes, the Tamil drama was performed to a large audience, comprising the loyal fans of the production and some young faces too. It was first staged in 1994 at the Kartik Fine Arts and was a roaring success. This helped the troupe gain momentum ever since. The play has been staged a number of times in the last 17 years. The story revolves around the protagonist Pattabhi, who wants to marry a girl named Salema. Though he is bent on his decision, she insists on getting his parent’s permission. The question of religion and its role in matrimony, are depicted well in the comedy. Backed with thought-provoking dialogues with repartee and witty situations, the play brings forth the underlying message of national integration excellently. It stresses on the need for a secular attitude and its positive effects. The USP of the play is the subject itself, which is relevant at any period of time. Another interesting thing about their play is that most of its protagonists are named Pattabhi.Railpriya was formed almost two decades ago, by a bunch of like-minded railway employees with a love for the performing arts.
