It was time for the graduation hats to go airborne at the Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA), which conducted its annual convocation here on Saturday. Lakshmi Narayanan, vice-chairman of IT major Cognizant, was the chief guest at the function.
Institute director Fr S Peter Xavier S J dwelt on the curricula revision in the institute in accordance with industry requirements and studies in bodies such as the C K Prahlad Centre for Emerging India and the five centres of excellence of the institute. “LIBA’s success, in terms of its ties with the industry, is evidenced with its relationships with associations such as TiE, FICCI and CII.” He claimed that the batch of 2012 have found better jobs and job profiles and better salaries, in addition to a proper fit with the companies they have joined.
Later, Lakshmi Narayanan, in his convocation address, assured the graduates that, as management professionals, their careers were safe. “What you accomplish as an individual isn’t important; how you achieve the same and your imprint on society matters more,” he maintained.
Stressing on continuous learning, Lakshmi Narayanan, quoting the litterateur John Barton, said: “Reading should be a repeat performance. One gleans something different every time you read the same book repetitively. You also learn by yourself by looking at everyone. Grab the opportunities that come your way.”
A prize distribution ceremony followed. About 250 students belonging to both full- and part-time post-graduate diploma in business administration, and the executive students of three corporate companies received their diplomas on the occasion.
