CUTTACK: In a major breakthrough, Commissionerate Police nabbed two notorious criminals, allegedly involved in guns and arms peddling. The two, Pua alias Manas Ranjan Das and Harish alias Haraprasad Sahoo, were caught from Saanta Sahi canal road on Tuesday morning.Purighat police raided the area and caught them with two automatic pistols, three magazines, eight rounds of live ammunition, one knife, six mobile phones with 12 extra SIM cards. The duo had allegedly come together to start a gun-running racket. Harish was involved in the murder of a student Ganeswar Bisoi at City College, Gopalpur, in Ganjam district in 1999 and sentenced to life imprisonment. He had reportedly started dealing in arms in connivance with some gunrunners from Bihar whom he met in jail. He had been transferred to the Open air Jail in Bhubaneswar owing to good conduct but had commenced his criminal activities by taking advantage of relative freedom he had been accorded. Pua, a notorious criminal of Pithapur, with more than 28 cases pending against him had come in contact with Harish in jail. Both had developed friendship then and allegedly joined hands to supply guns both in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Berhampur. Pua had resumed his criminal activities and involved in extortion after release from jail. Purighat police have booked them under the Arms Act. Both were produced in court and forwarded to judicial custody.
