VIJAYAWADA/ VISAKHAPATNAM: All might have a gala time at the New Year Bash on Saturday night, but it came fateful for a rising hockey talent and a trainee subinspector. A young cop, who joined police force recently, died in a bizarre road mishap in Vijayawada while a talented hockey player was killed by a fellow player in Visakhapatnam minutes after the New Year celebrations.Sivakoti Chinna Babu, a trainee subinspector died in a road accident when an unidentified vehicle hit his bike at Tickkle road on Saturday night. He was returning home after duty at the New Year celebrations in the city. Onduty Armed Reserve (AR) police rushed Chinna Babu to a private hospital, but he succumbed to the injuries on the way.According to Machavaram police, Chinababu (27) joined the police force in 2008 and was appointed a trainee SI in Machavaram police station four months ago. Chinna Babu, son of Sivakoti Yesebu (55), an agricultural labourer of Vijayanagaram in Gollaprolu mandal. He completed his diploma in chemical engineering from Andhra University and BA through correspondence before he joined the police force.Machavaram staff lamented Chinna Babu's death and remembered his joyful and easy going attitude. Police commissioner N Madhusudhan Reddy and other topbrass in the city expressed their condolences to Chinna Babu's family. In another incident, a young and talented hockey player, Ganireddy Bhaskar Rao (20) was allegedly killed by his fellow player K Ratna Kumar at Kailasapuram area in Visakhapatnam following a heated argument between them over a petty issue.According to reports, Bhaskar Rao and his fellow players went to a playground at Kailsapuarm area on Saturday night to celebrate the New Year. Bhaskar's friends K Joga Rao and K Ratna Kumar also went with him. After cutting the cake on eve of New Year, Ratna Kumar, a budding hockey player, who was reportedly arrogant and indiscipline, exchanged heated arguments with Bhaskar and stabbed him on his chest and fled from the scene.Bhaskar was shifted to Port Hospital in Akkayyapalem area, where he died while undergoing treatment. Sources said the duo had a rivalry in game and used to involve in minor scuffles with each other.Bhaskar Rao, a second year B Com student of Samata College was a trainee in Visakhapatnam Port Trust Sports Board. He represented VPT in the 32nd All India Major Ports Hockey Championship in which his team lifted the trophy. Bhaskar Rao was supposed to leave Visakhapatnam on Sunday evening to participate in a hockey championship in Korba of Chhattisgarh, they said. Police shifted Bhaskar's body for post mortem. IV Town Police took Ratna Kumar into custody.
