When it rains, the impact on agriculture is either positive or negative. Crops either flourish with the much-needed water or suffer from overwatering due to heavy downpours. There’s a unique phenomenon that occurs in a particular region. Here, the rainfall doesn’t just nourish crops; it also brings forth diamonds worth lakhs of rupees. This phenomenon is especially true in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. While rain is generally expected to help crops grow or fail, in the Jonnagiri area, it transforms the lives of some farmers by bringing them incredible fortune.
In Jonnagiri, farmers who head to their fields with bullock carts to engage in their daily farming activities are often surprised to find diamonds. This extraordinary occurrence has not gone unnoticed. The news has spread far and wide, prompting people from other districts and regions to travel to Jonnagiri in Kurnool district, all hoping to test their luck and perhaps discover diamonds themselves. While it may sound like a tale out of a storybook, this event is very real. Whenever it rains in Kurnool, it’s not just the local residents who are drawn to the area; people from all corners of the state flock here in large numbers, driven by the hope of finding valuable diamonds.
The impact of the rain is particularly notable in Jonnagiri, a region within the Pattikonda constituency. While heavy rains in the district can cause streams and rivers to swell, overflowing and disrupting travel and daily life, Jonnagiri is where the rain’s blessings are most profoundly felt. In a recent instance, a farmer from Jonnagiri experienced a stroke of incredible luck. After a bout of rainfall, this farmer, while engaged in fieldwork, discovered a diamond valued at 1.5 million rupees. The news of this discovery spread quickly, and it was reported that a trader purchased the diamond for a sum of Rs 1,200,000 in cash, along with 5 tolas of gold jewellery.
