Seoul (Korea): India won the opening match after Isha Lakhani and Ankita Bhambri won the two singles matches against Phillippines in the Fed Cup Tennis Asia/Oceania Zonal qualifying tie in Seoul, Korea on Thursday.
Fed Cup Asia-Oceania zonal qualifying tennis tie was supposed to start on Wednesday but the matches were postponed to Thursday due to heavy rains.
The Indian team comprises of Ankita Bhambri, Isha Lakhani and Shikha Uberoi and world number 40 Sania Mirza. The team is being captained by former Davis Cup player Enrico Piperno.
The Indian team is in 'Pool B' along with Chinese Taipei and New Zealand. The players will take on Chinese Taipei on Friday.
Pool 'A' comprises hosts Korea, Australia and Uzbekistan.
The best teams from each pool will play the final at the end of this week and the winning team will qualify for the World Group 2 play-off in July this year.
India was runner up last year when the Fed Cup had taken place in New Delhi.
