Kolkata: Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar has written to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee giving her consent to accept the "Banga Bibhusan" award from the state government.
"I am deeply overwhelmed by the letter of Lata Mangeshkar ji, just received, conveying her kind consent to accept Banga Bibhusan, the highest civil award of Bengal," Banerjee said on Facebook.
"I will personally go to hand over the award to her in Mumbai on 20th October, 2016. Sanjeev Goenka ji and a few other distinguished persons will accompany me," Banerjee said.
"The love, respect and admiration that Lata ji has for Bengal and the way she cherishes her wonderful memories with the state and different iconic personalities of the state, as reflected in her letter, has touched me very deeply," the CM said.
She also wished the 'Nightingale of India' a happy birthday in advance ahead of her 87th birthday next week.
