New Delhi: Taking note of the acute water crisis, the Supreme Court has pulled up the Union government. The court reprimanded the government after Assistant Solicitor General Pinky Anand was absent for a hearing.
The court remarked that the government's law officers are not serious about the drought situation.
The Supreme Court had on Wednesday also slammed the government on inaction in drought-hit areas. The court said nine states are facing drought and the government cannot turn blind eye on this.
The petition on drought and government's alleged apathy was filed by Swaraj Abhiyan seeking extra effort and free food for the poor in the affected states.
Meanwhile, the Rural development Ministry has assured the court that it will release more funds for drought-hit states and construction of 8 lakh ponds in affected areas is underway.
