Malayalam names finalised

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The workshop ‘Meeninu Oru Peru’ organised by Kerala State Biodiversity Board (KSBB) and Department of Aquatic Biology and Fisheries, University of Kerala, has finalised the Malayalam names for around 180 species of freshwater fishes of Kerala.New Malayalam names were proposed for around 50 species of fishes, while a series of new names were proposed for the existing ones to avoid confusion.Barbs, that represented over 20 species in Kerala, were also given specific names.The proposed names would be kept in the public domain for public inputs and the finalised list of Malayalam nameswill be given to State Institute of Languages and to the government departments concerned for absorbing the na mes
