Mubarak is in Tora Prison and will remain under detention for another 48 hours during which the prosecution can appeal against the order of his release.
Cairo: Egyptian Prime Minister Hazem El-Beblawi on Wednesday ordered to place Hosni Mubarak under mandatory house arrest, as the former president is expected to be released from jail following a court order.
According to Egyptian state TV, the prime minister issued his decision late this evening while acting in the capacity of deputy military commander under the rules of the currently enforced emergency law. "In the framework of the emergency law, the deputy military ruler ordered Mubarak to be placed under house arrest," read a news flash on state television.
Mubarak, 85, is in Tora Prison here and will remain under detention for another 48 hours during which the prosecution can appeal against the order of his release.
