Mumbaikars are offering their pedigreed pets to sniff out explosives or related particles to the security squad.

Mumbai: Mumbaikars, still reeling from the aftershocks of the horrific serial blasts, are coming forward in unique ways to help security agencies with their post 7/11 investigations.

Pedigreed dog owners are offering their Labradors, German Shepherds, Pugs, Miniature, Rottweilers to sniff out explosives or related particles to the security squads.

"Basically, my dog has been trained in obedience as well as sniffing. It has a trainer, who brings it here. I thought it is the need of the hour and they (the security squad) are running with shortage of dogs,” said Mario Andrade, owner of pet dog Mac.

“Since they need extra work force as far as the dogs are concerned, I thought it is a great opportunity to give Mumbai back what it seeks from us," he added.

For Jaisingh Naik who has been training the dogs as per their breed and nature, this is social welfare at its best.

"First, we choose the dog to classify which type of training they are suitable for. Dogs suitable for being trained in domestic obedience are different from the sniffer dogs,” said Naik.

“If people see the dogs sniffing and searching at railway platforms and other places, their fear goes off. This way the purpose is solved. People should come out of fear," he added.

Naik has dogs ranging from Doberman to Pugs to miniature Rottweillers.

His favourite pet, Champ, recently acted in the Bollywood flick Black.
