BANGALORE: The graduating design students of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Bangalore, showcased their creative collections at the graduation show held at Crowne Plaza on Saturday. The event this year became more special as the institution celebrated its silver jubilee. A special presentation on the institute for having completed 25 years of consistent and quality fashion education kickstarted the evening of fashion fanfare. A short video describing about the themes of the collections was played before the actual/ final designs took over the ramp. As many as 42 students displayed their collections in the design showcase 2011, that had everything from Rajasthani hand-block patterns, embroidery and Jodhpuri tie-and-die to the Manipuri martial art in the canvas of fabric and designs inspired by African and Tibetan costumes. The design collections of the budding designers had a sense of aesthetics and fineness in them. The collections had an amazing mix of uncommon themes that were ingenious, versatile and unmatched. The fancy names of themes like Saha-Sahara; La-Mithilaiae; Urban Invader; Dancing Spirits; the Twist and Turns of Thang-la; Vampire Angels and Panic, incited much enthusiasm and craze among the faculty, the parents of the outgoing students, people from the fashion industry and the cheering fellow students. The show had designs for everyone. The apparels of the theme ‘Passport to India’ were souvenirs for foreigners who come to India and get fascinated by the ethnic Indian clothes and attires. Collections inspired by nerds, scientists of 1930s and vampire series earned maximum applause. The show didn’t look like the regular fashion shows of amateur graduating students, it was quite well crafted and had a professional air, be it the creative themes, the designs, the stage or the choreography.
