New Delhi: There is good news for Hyderabad.
The brand spanking new international airport at Shamshadabad is formally open now.
Its first official flight was a Lufthansa flight carrying some 280 passengers from Frankfurt that landed just after midnight Saturday.
But earlier, a SpiceJet flight from Ahmedabad was given emergency clearance.
The Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt landed at the new airport at 1230 hrs (IST) and passengers were accorded a grand welcome.
The launch comes after UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi inaugurated it on March 14.
However, within three hours of its launch, airport authorities had to face public ire.
A KLM flight from Amsterdam was scheduled to land at 1345 hrs (IST), but the pilot diverted the flight to Delhi due to bad weather.
However, waiting relatives weren't informed about the diversion by airport authorities who had to face their anger.
Officials say that the shifting of operations from the old airport to the new one was smooth.
