New Delhi: It was hailed as a social victory two months ago when five HIV positive children were re-admitted to the MDLP school at Pampady in Kottayam district of Kerala after being shown the door.
However, soon the children - aged between five and 11 – were forced to leave their school because parents of their schoolmates said they would not let their children study with the infected children.
Despite much hue and cry raised over the issue, classes resumed after the summer break on Tuesday without the five children.
The NGO Asha Kiran, which looks after the children, did not send them to school because the activists feel the children will be traumatised by discrimination.
The NGO now wants the state government, school management and parents to arrive to a consensus before sending the children back to school.
On Monday, the school management met parents of other students but failed to convince them.
With the government threatening to derecognise the school, it’s a catch-22 situation for the school authorities.
