TIRUCHY: The NIT here has achieved 100 per cent placement record for under-graduate (UG) students this academic year, due to its tie-up with about 200 companies. This placement record is more than that achieved by Anna University and Indian Instutue of Technology (IIT) in Chennai. This is a record for us, said placement officer A K Bakthavatsalam. “The placement cell is active as the companies contact NIT throughout the year since a wide range of courses are offered by us,” he said. NIT, Tiruchy has 10 UG courses and 23 post-graduate (PG) courses.The Unger Graduate (UG) courses, which had elicited tremendous response from the companies include engineering courses in Chemical, Computer Science, Mechanical, Production Metallurgical and Materials, Civil, Electronics and Communications, Instrumentation and Control and Electrical and Electronics streams. The bachelor’s degree in Architecture too had good response, since all the students have got placements.“All the courses have a necessity in the job market. It is wrong to assume that Computer Science alone will win placements’’. ‘‘From Computer Science to Welding Engineering, everyone has received placements,” Bakthavatsalam said.
