"I am a mother and a mother is very happy to see her kids’ weddings. I am feeling the same happiness today...Shubh lagna ceremonies of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant begin today with today's mass wedding event...,” Nita Ambani said

Nita Ambani, Founder and Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, expressed satisfaction as the mass wedding of over 50 underprivileged couples from Palghar, around 100km from Mumbai, was held on Monday, marking the beginning of the ‘Shubh lagna’ ceremonies of her son Anant Ambani with Radhika Merchant.

Anant Ambani, the youngest son of Reliance Industries Limited Chairman and MD Mukesh Ambani and chairperson and Nita Ambani, and Radhika Merchant, the daughter of industrialist Viren Merchant, will tie the knot at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on July 12.

On the mass wedding event, Nita Ambani said, “I feel extremely happy seeing the newlywed couples here. I am a mother and a mother is very happy to see her kids’ weddings. I am feeling the same happiness today. I give my blessings to these couples.”

“Shubh lagna ceremonies of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant begin today with today’s mass wedding event…I am fortunate that I could come here for this auspicious event. My best wishes to the couples. I pray to God for their happiness,” she added.

The Ambanis, accompanied by their family members, including son and Reliance Jio Infocomm chairman Akash and daughter-in-law Shloka Ambani, and daughter Isha Ambani, who heads Reliance Retail, and her husband Anand Piramal, attended the function and extended their heartfelt wishes to the couples, adding a personal touch to the auspicious occasion.

The function was held at the Reliance Corporate Park and was attended by around 800 people representing families of the couples. Starting with this function, the family pledged to continue supporting hundreds more of such weddings across the country during the upcoming wedding seasons.

As a gesture of goodwill, each couple was presented with gold ornaments, including Mangalsutra, wedding rings and nose rings. They also received silver ornaments, such as toe rings and anklets. In addition, each bride was presented a cheque of Rs 1.01 lakh as ‘streedhan’.

Each couple was also gifted with grocery and household items sufficient for one year, including a variety of 36 essential items and utensils, appliances such as gas stove, mixer and fan, as well as mattress and pillows.

In the past too, during the occasion of weddings in the family, the Ambanis have run food service or Anna Seva for people in the nearby communities and with NGOs. In February, as part of Anant-Radhika pre-wedding festivities, an Anna Seva was held at Jogwad village near the Reliance Township in Gujarat’s Jamnagar. Mukesh Ambani, Anant Ambani and other members of the Ambani family, as well as Radhika Merchant, served traditional Gujarati food to around 51,000 villagers.
