HYDERABAD: The Majilis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) and the Congress have stuck to their respective positions on who should serve as the next mayor of Hyderabad, with the term of the incumbent, Banda Karthika Reddy of the Congress, coming to an end in the first week of December. As per the agreement reached at the time of elections in 2009, the Congress would have the mayorship for the first two years and the MIM for the next two years. With Kartika Reddy’s term is coming to an end, MIM floor leader in the Assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi met PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana and wanted him to honour the agreement. But Satyanarayana, according to sources, wanted the MIM to allow the Congress to have mayorship for another year as he was under pressure from Karthika Reddy to let her continue as mayor for another year. But the MIM did not agree to his plea and wanted the PCC to abide by the agreement.Satyanarayana then told Akbaruddin Owaisi that he would take up the matter with chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.
