Kolkata: IIM and XLRI graduates are not the only ones in demand now. Top recruiters are looking beyond the best B-schools and engineering colleges in the country.
Dozens of firms have queued up to recruit fresh graduates from two colleges in Kolkata and up on offer are salaries as handsome as the ones that students of premier institues are getting.
Jobs are raining at Kolkata's St Xavier's College and Presidency College Calcutta.
Besides BPOs and small-time ITES companies, top consulting and manufacturing firms are recruiting at the college and many of students have landed exciting jobs even before they have graduated.
According to college authorities, companies like Maruti, HSBC, McKinsey and Google are recruiting students of St Xavier's and as many as 250 students might be placed this year.
Those ruling the roost are science and commerce students.
Placement Officer, St. Xavier's College, Aniruddha Sinha says, "Once Multi National Companies take students at the graduation stage they can mould them according to the needs of the company. After a year of training they send them for MBA and higher studies. Sometimes companies make students sign a bond so that they work in the company for two years."
He says that the talent these companies are picking up is excellent.
According to St. Xavier's College authorities, McKinsey had topped the pecking order last year by offering as much as Rs five lakh in annual salary, which after this year's placements, might look a decent offer at best.
