CUTTACK: The alleged Pipili gang-rape victim will have to be taken to AIIMS, Delhi, for more advanced tests and treatment, the doctors’ committee in charge of her treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) here on Saturday said. The SCBMCH authorities have written to the Government seeking immediate arrangement for shifting her to Delhi. The expert team evaluated her condition and following analysis of the MRI test reports recommended for taking her to a more advanced facility for treatment and diagnosis. The girl continues to be in a semi-comatose stage, devoid of normal body functions, even though she has shown marginal improvement and is making some movements and sounds, the doctors noted. She had been subjected to MRI tests on Friday under anaesthesia. The tests have confirmed ischaemic hypoxic encephalopathy or blocked oxygen flow to the brain due to partial hanging or strangulation that has pushed the 19-year-old into a coma. However, the MRI has only revealed the structural abnormalities of the brain.“There needs to be further probe and advanced tests like positron emission tomography (PET) scanning of the brain to ascertain the exact extent of the damage to cells and nerves and determine the functional abnormalities. These kind of diagnostic facilities are not available in Odisha,” Superintendent Prof. DN Moharana said. A report on the issue will be submitted to the Orissa High Court on Monday. Meanwhile, Opposition political parties on Saturday made a beeline for the hospital to enquire about her condition. A high-level team from the Congress, comprising OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik and City Congress president Md. Mokim, along with a BJP team, led by former minister Bimbadhar Kuanr, visited the hospital and discussed her condition with the authorities.
