SAMBALPUR: People raised their voice against the Sindol hydro power project at the public hearing organised by Sindol Sangharsa Samiti here on Wednesday.Addressing the gathering, senior BJD leader and chairperson of Sambalpur Development Authority Bijay Mohanty said there was no need for a public hearing as people of the region had already expressed their stand on the project. He said there had been enough displacement in the area and it was high time the State Government changed its stand on it. Former Birmaharajpur MLA Rabi Panigrahi said the project would end up as a water reservoir to provide water to thermal power plants. “Generation of hydro power is the last thing on the State Government’s mind,” he said. Expressing concern at “divisive politics pursued by the State Government”, a retired teacher Lal Bahadur Bag of Dhama said that the Sindol project would only divide the State further.
