KOCHI: Seeking an immediate revoking of the PWD’s decision to close down the Kochi Harbour bridge, the Janakiya Prathirodha Samithi has filed a petition to PWD minister V K Ebrahim Kunju.The office-bearers of the Samithi pointed out that the closure of the bridge would lead to serious traffic congestion in the Thoppumpady area. They added that the repairing of the bridge would cost the government less than `1 crore. The delegation which met the minister was headed by the Samithi’s general convener Francis Kalathunkal and consisted of representatives of bi-wheelers associations.The delegation also reminded the minister that since two and three wheelers were not allowed to ply through the BOT bridge, they would not be eligible for any insurance reimbursement in case of an accident.Consequently, Ebrahim Kunju instructed the delegation to hand over the petition to the Executive Engineer of the Buildings and Roads division of the PWD for taking necessary steps at theearliest.
