KOCHI: As many as 1,700 petrol pumps in the state will remain closed on Monday. Petrol pump owners under the AllKerala Federation of Petroleum Traders (AKFPT) are shutting down their pumps from Sunday midnight to Monday midnight demanding implementation of the committee report on commission to petroleum dealers.
The pump owners have also expressed their protest against the oil companies' decision to sanction more outlets without proper scientific study."The Apurva Chandra Committee has recommended a substantial increase in the commission to dealers who are doing low volume business. We have decided to close down for 24 hours demanding implementation of the recommendations of the Committee," said AKFPT officials.

It has been pointed out that the recent increase in commission to dealers were beneficial only to the big traders. However, majority of the petrol pumps in the state are not doing large volume of business.
