The Delhi Police on Wednesday issued an advisory on traffic arrangements in the national capital. According to the advisory, the Republic Day parade will start at 10.30 am from Vijay Chowk and proceed towards the Red Fort grounds

With the full-dress rehearsal for the Republic Day parade underway, commuters in central and New Delhi faced traffic snarls on Wednesday. With several restrictions and route diversions, put in place for the smooth conduct of Republic Day celebrations, the traffic movement is expected to remain affected for two more days.

The Delhi Police on Wednesday issued an advisory on traffic arrangements in the national capital. According to the advisory, the Republic Day parade will start at 10.30 am from Vijay Chowk and proceed towards the Red Fort grounds.

There will also be a related function at the National War Memorial, India Gate, at 9.30 am. Police have put up extensive traffic arrangements and restrictions along the parade route.

Traffic Diversions In Delhi

  • The parade will pass through Vijay Chowk, Kartavya Path, C-Hexagon, the Subhas Chandra Bose roundabout, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Netaji Subhas Marg and Red Fort, the advisory stated.
  • No traffic movement is being allowed on Kartavya Path from Vijay Chowk to India Gate from 6 pm on Wednesday. The restrictions will continue till the parade is over.
  • No cross-traffic will be allowed on Kartavya Path at Rafi Marg, Janpath, Man Singh Road from 10 pm on Wednesday till the end of the parade, the advisory stated.
  • C-Hexagon-India Gate will be closed for traffic from 9.15 am on Thursday till the parade crosses Tilak Marg.
  • From 10.30 am on Thursday, traffic on Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Netaji Subhas Marg will not be allowed, it said.
  • Cross-traffic will only be allowed depending on the movement of the parade. The traffic advisory suggested alternative routes that motorists can follow.
  • Commuters can take the route from Madarsa, Lodhi Road T-point via Aurobindo Marg, AIIMS Chowk, Ring Road-Dhaula Kuan, Vande Matram Marg and Shankar Road to reach Mandir Marg, the advisory stated.
  • Flying of sub-conventional aerial platforms such as paragliders, paramotors, hang gliders, UAVs, UASs, microlight aircraft, remotely-piloted aircraft, hot-air balloons, small size-powered aircraft, quadcopters or parajumping from aircraft are prohibited over the jurisdiction of Delhi till February 15, it said.
  • Commuters travelling to New Delhi railway station from south Delhi can pass through Dhaula Kuan, Vande Matram Marg, Panchkuian Road, the Connaught Place Outer Circle and Chelmsford Road for the Paharganj side and Minto Road and Bhavbhuti Marg for the Ajmeri Gate side.
  • From east Delhi, they can take Boulevard Road via ISBT bridge, the Rani Jhansi flyover, the Jhandewalan roundabout, DB Gupta Road, Sheela Cinema Road and the Paharganj bridge, it said.
  • To travel to Old Delhi eailway station from south Delhi, the advisory urged people to take the the Ring Road, Ashram Chowk, Sarai Kale Khan, Rajghat, Chowk Yamuna Bazar, SP Mukherjee Marg, Chhatta Rail and the Kauria bridge.
  • Inter-state buses from Ghaziabad bound for Shivaji Stadium will have to take National Highway-24, the Ring Road and terminate at Bhairon Road. Buses coming from National Highway-24 will take a right turn on Road No 56 and terminate at ISBT-Anand Vihar.
  • Buses for Wazirabad Bridge from Ghaziabad will be diverted at Mohan Nagar towards Bhopra Chungi. No heavy transport/light goods vehicles will be allowed to enter Delhi from other states from 11 pm on Thursday till the parade is over.
  • These vehicles will only be allowed to ply between ISBT-Sarai Kale Khan and ISBT-Kashmere Gate on the Ring Road from 7.30 am to 1.30 pm on Friday, the advisory stated. People are requested to make the maximum use of public transport to reach Kartavya Path, it said.

Advisory Of Metro Commuters

  • “People who will be in possession of bona fide e-invitation cards or e-tickets for attending the Republic Day ceremony will be issued coupons on production of government-issued identity cards at stations, which will be valid for exits from Central Secretariat and Udyog Bhawan stations only to reach Kartavya Path,” a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) statement said.
  • The same coupon will be valid for return journeys from these two stations. Passengers with invitation cards marked for enclosures 1 to 9 and V1 and V2 should deboard at Udyog Bhawan.
  • “Similarly, those (with invitation cards) marked for enclosures 10 to 24 and VN are advised to deboard at Central Secretariat. Regular announcements will also be made inside the trains to inform passengers about the same so that they deboard at the designated stations in order to reach their enclosures smoothly,” the DMRC said.

Traffic Advisory By Gurugram Police

The traffic police in Gurugram have also issued an advisory for heavy and medium vehicles in the city along with no entry of heavy vehicles in Delhi on Republic Day.

  • As per the traffic advisory, all the goods vehicle transporters have been apprised that medium and heavy goods vehicles will not be allowed to enter Gurugram and Delhi from 5 pm on January 25 till 1:30 pm on January 26.
  • In Gurugram, the Republic Day programmes will this year be organised at five places– Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Gurugram Martyr and Freedom Fighter Memorial Stadium Nakhdola, Government Senior Secondary School (Boys), Pataudi, Government Model Sanskriti Senior Secondary School, Sushant Lok and Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sohna.
  • In order to ensure smooth traffic flow and to minimise inconvenience to the road users, heavy vehicles coming from the Jaipur side on NH-48 will be diverted at Pachgaon on the KundliManesarPalwal Expressway (KMP) Expressway.
  • Heavy vehicles from Gurugram’s local areas will be diverted to the alternate routes at various points, including Kherki Toll, Rajiv Chowk, lffco Chowk and Shankar Chowk, read the advisory.
  • The Republic Day programmes in Gurugram this time will be under the surveillance of drones. The venues will be monitored with drones and the patrolling has also been for security, police said.
  • Gurugram Police spokesperson Subhash Boken said that Section 144 of the CrPC has been imposed in the city. During this period, there will be a complete ban on the use of drones, aircraft, gliders, air balloons, kites and micro lights in Gurugram till January 26, he added.

Traffic Advisory By Noida Police

The Gautam Buddh Nagar police have also issued a traffic advisory, cautioning commuters of possible diversions on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and the Yamuna Expressway briefly on January 25.

  • However, emergency vehicles will be exempted from any diversions, the police said.
  • The traffic police have suggested alternative routes for commuters, including those going to Delhi, with the diversion being planned in view of an event in adjoining Bulandshahr district.
  • According to officials, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Bulandshahr on January 25 for a BJP programme, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also in attendance along with a host of state ministers and party leaders.
  • “The general public is informed that on Thursday (January 25), the tour programme of a very distinguished dignitary is proposed in Bulandshahr district. In view of this, in case of any emergency in Commissionerate Gautam Buddh Nagar, traffic could be diverted on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and the Yamuna Expressway for a short time,” the police said in an advisory.
  • Emergency vehicles will be allowed to pass safely during traffic diversion, the police said and urged commuters to use alternative routes to avoid inconvenience.
  • According to the Thursday diversion plan, the traffic going from Chilla Red Light towards Greater Noida via the expressway will be diverted from Sector 14A flyover towards Sector 15 roundabout and it will be able to go towards the destination via DSC route.
  • The traffic going from DND towards Greater Noida via expressway will be diverted towards Rajnigandha Chowk in Sector 16. This traffic will be able to go towards the destination via MP-01 route and DSC route, the advisory stated.
  • Similarly, the traffic going from Kalindi border towards Greater Noida via expressway will be diverted towards Sector 37 from Mahamaya flyover. This traffic will be able to go towards the destination via MP-03 route and DSC route, it added.
  • The traffic going from Sector 37 via expressway towards Greater Noida will be diverted to the double service road from Sector 44 roundabout. This traffic will be able to reach its destination via DSC route via double service road, it said.
  • Those going from Greater Noida towards Noida via the expressway will be diverted from Charkha roundabout towards Sector 94. This traffic will be able to reach its destination via Mahamaya flyover via Sector 37.
  • For commuters going from Kalindi Border to Dalit Prerna Sthal Parking Tiraha towards DND/Chilla, there will be diversion towards Sector 37 from Mahamaya Flyover. This traffic will be able to reach the destination via DSC route, MP-03 route from Sector 37.
  • The traffic going from GIP Mall towards DND via Filmcity flyover will be diverted by U-turn below Filmcity flyover.
  • This traffic will be able to go towards the destination through the DSC route and elevated route, according to the advisory. Those going towards Delhi via DND flyover from Rajnigandha side will be diverted from Rajnigandha Chowk.
  • This traffic will be able to go towards the destination from New Ashok Nagar border via DSC route, it stated.
  • Similarly, traffic going towards Delhi via Sector 14A flyover from Golchakkar Chowk Sector 15 will be diverted from Golchakkar Chowk.
  • This traffic will be able to go towards the destination from New Ashok Nagar border via DSC route, it added. I
  • n Greater Noida, the traffic going from Zero Point via Yamuna Expressway will be diverted towards Pari Chowk. This traffic will be able to reach the destination via Kasna town, Sirsa, Eastern Peripheral Expressway.
  • The traffic coming from Agra towards Noida will be able to get down towards Jewar town ahead of Jewar toll plaza and go towards the destination via Sabauta underpass via Khurja bypass via Jahangirpur, the advisory stated.
  • Also, those going from Pari Chowk towards Noida via Noida-Greater Noida Expressway will be diverted from Pari Chowk towards Sujpur. This traffic will be able to reach its destination from Surajpur via Greater Noida West, it added.
  • “The diversion on the two key expressways could be made only in case that is required. The diversions have been announced to make sure commuters opt for alternative routes and any inconvenience to them is avoided, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Kumar Yadav told news agency PTI.
