Sangli: The last rites of 28-year-old Constable Koli Nitin Subhash who was killed in ceasefire violation on Saturday by Pakistani troops in Macchil sector along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir was performed at his native village of Sangli, Maharashtra on Monday.
Late constable Nitin hailed from Dudhgaon village in Sangli district of Maharastra's. The jawan's body, wrapped in the tricolour, was brought to his native in a bedecked army vehicle and a large number of people including from neighbouring areas paid their last respect.
His whole family was seen in pain and tears as they bid their final goodbye to the braveheart.
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) soldiers paid tribute to their colleague constable Koli Nitin Subhash during the wreath laying ceremony in Humhama on the outskirts of Srinagar.
State ministers Chandrakant Patil and Sadabhau Khot were among those who paid tributes to the martyr.
Earlier, his body was taken to his home and later kept at the Karmveer Chowk to enable people pay their last respects.
The 28-year-old Koli, who was martyred on October 29, was planning to visit his family in his native village after Diwali.
He had come home around six months ago and was to come on leave again on November 5. The family was eagerly waiting for him.
Subhash had joined BSF in 2008 and is survived by his wife and two sons aged four years and two years.
After the news broke out, the villagers decided not to celebrate Diwali, even as a pall of gloom descended on the village. The villagers decided to not burst fire crackers during the festival and also brought down the lanterns, hung atop their homes.
