New Delhi: Delhi is producing the maximum amount of water but unequal distribution has led to chaos in the city. While areas like Mehrauli gets 28 litres per capita daily, another area like Delhi Cant gets 509 LPCD of water. The area with five per cent of city's elite population get 450 litres per capita water whereas the marginalised, which covers over 70% of the capital consume less than five percentage of Delhi's water supply.

The Delhi Jal Board produces around 4.4 million litres of water everyday and there are 1 crore 70 lakh people in Delhi with 21 lakh authorised consumers. Even if the entire population is considered, every one should get 237 litres of water.

Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, "The problem is unequal distribution of water. Some get too much and poor get too less."

While an area like Mahavir Enclave gets less than 20 litres per capita everyday, posh areas like the Delhi Cant gets 509 litres per capita everyday. The Delhi government has said they are looking into the matter and will resolve the problem soon.

AAP Minister Kapil Mishra said, "We will provide piped water connections to everyone and are already making arrangements."

Despite getting new connections, many people have complained about the quality of water.

"This water is stinking, black in colour. How can we use it," a Delhi resident said.
