Bhopal: An Indore court is likely to decide on the bail petition of Saba Farooqi, one of the five accused in the murder of social activist Shehla Masood. Saba is the assistant of interior Zahid Pervez, who is the main accused.
Shehla was killed in Bhopal in August 16, 2011 soon after she boarded her car to leave for Anna Hazare's India Against Corruption campaign.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan referred the case to CBI on the third day of murder itself. The CBI took 18 days to take over the investigations and it was only after three months that things got moving after CBI's Special Crime Unit Delhi took over the case from its Bhopal wing.
Shakib Danger, a ladies tailor who had more than one dozen serious cases pending against him, got the killers from Kanpur for Rs 3 lakhs.
Shakib Danger was the first to be arrested followed by Zahida Parvez, Saba Farooque, Irfan and Tavis Khan. The CBI gathered a bagful of technical evidence that nailed the killers.
Their movement around Shehla's house was allegedly established on the day of the murder and a couple of days before August 16, when they had come to Bhopal.
Shakib was reportedly the first one to be informed by the killers. He called up Zahida to give her the 'good news' and she in turn sent her friend Saba to confirm about it.
