Showcasing tribal handicrafts

KOCHI: An exclusive sales counter of the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (TRIFED) will be opened at the Cauvery showroom at Jos Brothers building on M G Road in Kochi.TRIFED is an organisation under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs that will showcase tribal handicrafts, textiles and jewellery. The tribal handicrafts are primitive and raw, and the specialised skills are passed on from one generation to another.Metal crafts, tribal textiles from different states, traditional jewellery made by Ghantra tribe from Orissa, bead necklaces from Wancho tribe from Arunachal Pradesh and coin necklaces from Andhra will be available at the sales counter. Tribal paintings such as Worli from Maharashtra, Gond, Pithora and Rathwa from Gujarat and palm leaf paintings from Orissa will be the other attractions.The other items that will be available at the Tribes India counter, include gifts and novelties, cane and bamboo, pottery, natural and organic products etc.
