CHENNAI: A speeding motorbike knocked down a 55-year-old watchman of a private company, killing him on the spot, on East Coast Road early on Sunday. The bike rider, booked for rash driving and culpable homicide, was admitted to hospital with serious injuries.The incident occurred around 6.30 am, when V Duraisamy, a watchman in Gem Granites at Kanathur, was crossing the road to go to his room in the same locality after finishing night duty. Duraisamy, a native of Alathur in Pattukotai, Thanjavur, was a bachelor, traffic investigation inspector R Jayaprakash told Express. Even as he was crossing the road, a speeding Honda CBR TN07 AV 1355, cruising along ECR from Chennai to Mahabalipuram, knocked him down and ran over his left leg, severing the limb into pieces. Duraisamy sustained severe head injuries in the fall and died on the spot, the officer said.The officer identified the rider of the bike as Aravind Venkatasamy (29), an engineer and resident of TTK Road in Alwarpet. He ran an engineering company in Alwarpet and took to the road on his bike for an early morning ride. The inspector said Aravind was admitted with a fractured leg in a private hospital in Adyar. He was booked under Sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing injuries) and 304-A (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and the two-wheeler seized.
